Program Director

Nature of position: Full time

Term of position: 1 year renewable for the life of grant and satisfactory performance.

Position Location: Ghana, Nigeria or Kenya

SCOPE OF ROLE

The Director is responsible for the technical leadership and administrative oversight of the project and serves as the main interface and relationship with the foundation. The director will take a leadership role in coordination of project partners and implementation team (Regional Directors and Regional Program Managers – RPM). S/he has responsibility for ensuring quality deliverables are delivered with quality and on deadline to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (annual work plan, annual monitoring evaluation and a learning plan and project technical and financial reports). S/he has overall responsibility for ensuring the results of the project are met on time and on budget. The Director is responsible for making adjustments in strategy and staffing as required over the life of the project to ensure project results are met and establishing management systems for the project team that will ensure performance results as per indicators (output and outcome indicators) are met.

Required Qualifications

· A master’s degree in food science, agriculture, project management, international development, or a related field from an accredited university

· At least 5 – 10 years experience managing and implementing food value chain transformation programs in Africa

· Any experience in food manufacturing or working in a food processing company would be an added bonus.

· Familiarity with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation or other similar donor program regulations and policies.

· Demonstrated skills in collaboration and relationship management, with an ability to work with government and non-government partners effectively to strengthen systems and promote sustainability.

· Proven experience in recruiting, developing and managing staff to promote gender equality, diversity, social inclusion and a collaborative work culture

· Familiarity with industry practices Monitoring and Evaluation (MELP) requirements and processes, including Collaborating, Learning, Adapting (CLA) practices;

· Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, French (optional but a plus)
