The fishery industry in Ghana supports the citizenry by serving as a source of food, employment, revenue, recreation, and leisure. Looking at the benefits associated with the fishery industry, little did we assume that an industry we once deemed as the heart of the coast will become the talk of the devil. Why? This has been a million-dollar question on the lips of managers, researchers, administrators, fishier folks, and fishing communities in general.

Who is to be blamed?
The blame game isn’t the solution to social issues but a more inclusive approach is the key statement. For many years, enforcement of the law has not materialized and the situation of low catch per effort keeps escalating. It is the responsibility of all stakeholders including the Fisheries Commission, Fishers, Traditional Authorities, District and Municipal Assemblies and CSOs to have a good roadmap for this sector. We can not afford to lose a sector that support over millions of households to the concept of the “Tragedy of the Commons”.
